Riding
The Missouri Foxtrotter is a very sure
footed, sensible horse, with beautiful, smooth gaits and an easy way
of traveling. The riding we do here involves mountain, forests,
meadows, water crossing at many levels, road work, wooden bridges, and of
course, ring work. They are willing movers on the trail, have been
used in the Midwest and West with cattle, and are increasingly winning
competitive long distance endurance rides . While they have been
used in driving and in hunting/jumping disciplines, their forte is trail
riding over all types of terrain. Many
people "of an age" felt that they have to give up riding, since
posting or other activities have taken their toll on knees, hips, or
backs. Many of these same people are now back in the saddle and
enjoying the camaraderie of friends and horses with riding in their
lives. That is the major difference with Missouri Foxtrotters. Want
to go on a three or five day mountain ride, or just across an historic
battlefield on a day's ride with a picnic? These horses will get you there
with sense, style, joy, and beauty. There
are many clubs and sponsored rides in Virginia, both in the Blue Ridge and
on the Shore or in the countryside or battlefields. The opportunities
abound for great riding most of the year. You can find the rides in the
Virginia Horse Journal, several of your local newspapers, and on many
county sponsored internet sites. I
